Train Licenses

The train license is the primary tool used to consolidate the fixed costs of running a railroad into one sum that is easy to keep track of. I also consider taxes to covered by the cost of the train license.
A train license is only permission to run a train on the main line and does not cover the cost of equipment, cost of the crew etc.. I still need to make some calculations to get the license amounts. I expect to have three types of licenses. First class time table license should be limited in number and last for six sessions the number might even be zero. Second class should be the largest number of time table trains and will last for six sessions. A time table license would be lost after two sessions in a row of the train not running so trains with just a locomotive and a caboose might be run. Extras will run as third class and the license will only cover one session.
With the many costs that I plan to cover with a train license they will be cheap. For switching an industry with no mainline use a license would not be required.
There will be extra charges during the operating session added by the computer for over length trains (it would go up on a sliding scale based on the number of cars over the limit) so we don't end up with one very long train in each direction. Any fines caused by the crews would also be added by the computer on operating night. |
