The Mid-Summer Dance

The annual mid-summers dance was a big success!  As usual, the large meeting room of the town hall was cleared and as evening approached, everyone in Eagle's Nest made their way to the dance.    While the old folks enjoyed the large buffet, the youngsters and the young at heart danced to the tunes of the Tin Horn Band.  All were astonished when Dorby the pillar of reserved behavior showed up and promptly rushed on the floor where he invented a wild new dance. Dorby was dancing with such abandon that he was in danger of leaving the dance floor and falling out the back door of the hall!  Dorby had to be pushed back to the floor every few minutes.  The murmuring of the old folks rose to the point you could hear it in the background over the sound of the band.  The mayor was getting up to stop the band but it was to late, most of the couples on the floor had adopted the new "Dorby dance"!

The details of what drove Dorby to dance came out the next day.  Dorby had a few drinks before the dance and with his liquid courage decided to try chewing tobacco for the first time.  Thorian gave him a big lip full.  Dorby wasn't dancing, he was trying to get out the back door to dispose of the chewing tobacco!  It was Dorby good fortune that in the excitement of everyone taking up the new dance, he was able to get out the back door and relieve himself.

Dorby has been taking a lot of ribbing about having a chew but he seems to be in a dark humor about it.
