To me a web site is a creative endeavor that is also a published
work and software because you have links and navigation. I have to
admit to being proof reading challenged and I also believe that a
programmer is not qualified to review their own work. A detailed review for an award seemed like a good idea.
I was looking at award sites and noticed that The Smokin' Award
site had a very detailed list of practical criteria of what you need
to have an exceptional web site. I also noticed that after several
years no one had won the top award yet! I was hooked and submitted
my site.
Many sites submitted to The Smokin' Award site do not qualify for
an award so I am pleased to have received the bronze award for 12
Mile Station. I am also pleased with amount of detailed feedback
that I received. The criteria scores and extra feedback will help me
improve my site in areas that I would have overlooked on my own. I
will have the award image on my site as the only animated image for
now and do not expect to add many or any animated images in the
future. If you have a web site and want to make it better I would
encourage you to review the criteria at the The Smokin' Award site.
After all if you are going to have a web site you might as well do
the best you can to improve it as you learn more about the web
environment.
I plan to address some issues that came up in the award review.
You will notice I moved the web ring link from the bottom of the page
and now have a web ring icon on the right of the home page. I did
this so the home page would load faster. I also plan to move the
“Nugget” off the home page next month to make the home page load even faster.
I started out to make a south western railroad in the US. After
my change of plans when I moved my railroad to Middle Earth I did
not change the text I entered before the change. I plan to go back
and change my text so everything is about the Middle Earth location
so I will not leave visitors wondering what is going on.
