I plan to make what I am calling clear span diorama beachwork that is supported on both ends and have a 12 foot span with no support in the middle. I figure that a large open sided box that is strong could be moved without a lot of damage, because you never know if you might have to make a move some day.

Now that we have added on to the house I have changed my plans and will put most of the model railroad in the basement of the new addition.  I will have one  section a bit over 12 ft that will be in the part of the basement that I finished before we decided to add on to the house.  This will work out well because I will be able to start with a switching area while I prepare the new space for the railroad.
